On Saturday, May 10, the nineteenth edition of the Papal Concert took place in the beautiful Mirror Hall of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna. As every year, the event attracted numerous guests and provided an opportunity to commemorate St. John Paul II, the Pope who shaped the spirituality and thinking of millions of people around the world.
An evening of musical contemplation
This year’s concert was graced by the performance of Anna Maria Jopek, an artist of extraordinary sensitivity and charisma. Her interpretations, supported by outstanding musicians Robert Kubiszyn (double bass, bass guitar) and Dominik Wania (piano), created a unique atmosphere full of emotion, reflection, and spiritual depth. It was a time of contemplation and emotion – perfectly in line with the message of the Papal Concert.
Memory, heritage, and new signs of the times
During the official part of the evening, Tomasz Zjawiony, President of the Regional Chamber of Commerce in Katowice, took the floor. Referring to current events in the Catholic Church, he recalled the recent election of Leo XIV, the first American to the Holy See.
– This is a choice of great symbolic significance. We hope that it will also translate into a deeper reflection of spiritual values in world politics, especially in the actions of the President of the United States – said the President of the RIG in Katowice.
In turn, the Honorary President of RIG in Katowice, Tadeusz Donocik, recalled the beginnings of the Papal Concert, which arose from the need to commemorate the pontificate of John Paul II through music.
– The origins of the Papal Concert go back many years, when the idea of commemorating John Paul II through music was born. The first discussions on this subject were full of enthusiasm and commitment – recalled Tadeusz Donocik.
Maciej Kluss, director of the Castle Museum in Pszczyna, reminded participants of the wealth of local monuments:
– We invite you to discover the beauty of our monuments. The castle, the Prince’s Stables, and the Hunting Lodge in Promnice are places full of history and charm – encouraged Maciej Kluss.
A community of memory and tradition
As every year, the Papal Concert brought together representatives of the diplomatic corps, MEPs, MPs, provincial and local authorities, the Church, and entrepreneurs. The event was not only an artistic experience, but also a moment of spiritual unity and shared reflection.
The Mayor of Pszczyna, Dariusz Skrobol, also took the floor and extended an invitation to participate in the upcoming Princess Daisy Festival:
– I cordially invite you to celebrate together during Daisy Days, which will take place on May 24-26. It is a great opportunity to enjoy the culture and tradition of our region together – said the Mayor of Pszczyna.
The 19th Papal Concert was not only a musical event, but also a profound experience of community, spirituality, and reflection on the role of values in today’s world. Filled with beauty, emotion, and memory, it proved once again that the idea born years ago is still of great importance.
