On March 26, the Open Meeting of member companies of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice was held. Within the walls of the SpinPLACE Conference Center of the University of Silesia, the currently popular topic of deregulation of economic regulations resounded. The discussion brought together representatives of business, politics and science, who jointly analyzed how the reduction of administrative burdens can contribute to improving the conditions for doing business in Poland.

Deregulation of regulations: challenges and hopes of entrepreneurs

During the meeting special attention was given to the work of the team, chaired by Rafał Brzoska, which is analyzing the possibility of deregulating economic regulations. The group is trying to develop propositions, which will simplify regulations, reduce bureaucracy and improve administrative efficiency. Dr. Mariusz Filipek, Deputy Spokesperson for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, stressed that Polish entrepreneurs face numerous difficulties related to excessive regulations.

– Entrepreneurs have it really hard because of the regulations. Each solution Any solution that passes will be a success. Let it be 5, 10, 20%, but it will be a success – he noted.

Deregulations still arises controversy, as it requires the maintenance of appropriate standards and inspections that ensure safety and order in the economy. Nevertheless, entrepreneurs expect simplification of procedures and reduction of administrative burdens, which will certainly affect their competitiveness and innovation.

Experts on deregulation: opinions from different perspectives

Experts in law and economic policy also took part in the discussion on deregulation. Przemysław Ruchlicki, Deputy Director at the Bureau of Economic Policy of the Polish Chamber of Commerce (KIG), stressed the importance of the work of the team that develops solutions with entrepreneurs in mind.

– There are specialists gathered around this team who know the law. Ideas are heavily analyzed. This is a team to propose solutions with the hands of entrepreneurs and to give a weapon to politicians who will want to prove themselves in an election year – he said.

Prof. Tomasz Pietrzykowski from the Silesian University noticed, that changes in regulations should be seen as a simplification process rather than a classic deregulation.

– What direction the work is going in can hardly qualify as deregulation in the strict sense of the word. It is the addition of regulations – only much better. In the European Union, there is already talk of replacing the term deregulation with the word simplification – he noted.

and added that this approach better reflects the nature of contemporary changes in economic regulations.

International Relations: Israeli delegation and new opportunities

The meeting also had an international dimension. Katowice hosted a delegation of Israeli companies, as well as representatives of the Israeli Embassy in Warsaw. The meeting, in the Business Mixer formula, made it possible to establish new contacts and cooperation with Israeli companies, especially in the areas of new technologies, innovation and environmental protection. Israel has been a key economic and technological partner of Poland for years, and cooperation between the two countries has great potential for the future.
