On May 19, entrepreneurs gathered at the hospitable Humanitas Academy. The co-organizer of the event prepared a dose of substantive knowledge. The program also included welcoming new entrepreneurs who joined the Chamber and business talks in a friendly atmosphere over refreshments.
Another inspiring, horizon-broadening, and valuable relationship-building meeting of the Chamber’s Member Companies is behind us. In the auditorium of the Humanitas Academy, the gathered entrepreneurs were welcomed by the organizers of the meeting: Dr. Piotr Oleśniewicz, professor at the Academy, Arkadiusz Chęciński, mayor of Sosnowiec, and Tomasz Zjawiony, president of the Chamber.

Tomasz Zjawiony, referring to the situation related to the presidential election, emphasized that entrepreneurs must operate in any reality, regardless of the ruling political option and economic reality.
– We must work, pay taxes, and act together. Building relationships and exchanging experiences in running a business are crucial in today’s world. Our organization reflects the structure of the market, with large industrial companies as well as micro, small, and medium-sized entrepreneurs among our member companies. Today, 10 new member companies will join our Chamber, bringing the total number of companies, institutions, foundations, and cultural entities working with us to nearly 700 – noted the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Katowice.

Business and the civil protection system
All meetings organized by the Chamber include a substantive aspect, allowing participants to familiarize themselves with new regulations, legal and economic conditions. This time, the Act of December 5, 2024, on civil protection and civil defense was discussed. The tasks under the new act create favorable prospects for business, as it requires local governments to provide their residents with safe shelter and adequate resources for 72 hours during a state of emergency (e.g., natural disasters). Local government administration must create a database of companies providing services and benefits for the infrastructure necessary to carry out civil protection and civil defense tasks.
– The scale of the tasks is enormous. 0.3% of the city’s budget will be allocated for this purpose. 80-90% will go directly to local governments. In addition, PLN 30 billion from the National Reconstruction Plan will be redirected to the Security and Defense Fund over three years. It is also possible to apply for funds from the EU’s InvestEU program for areas such as sustainable infrastructure, research, innovation, and digitization, which contribute to improving security and civil protection. The Humanitas Academy offers substantive support and training in civil protection and civil defense tasks – explained Dr. Tomasz Miłkowski, Director of the Institute of Security Sciences at the Humanitas Academy.

The brain likes challenges, not conflicts
Psychology for business was the topic of the second lecture prepared by the Humanitas Academy. Psychologist Katarzyna Porembska, deputy director of the University Development Office for the Rybnik branch, proved in her presentation Conflict vs. Brain that our brain likes and values challenges, while conflicts have a negative impact on our nervous system. She gave tips on how to deal with crisis situations and how to build a favorable work environment for our brains to function effectively. Trust and open communication, an atmosphere of mutual respect, caring for well-being, creating opportunities for development and autonomous action that gives a sense of agency, as well as developing a culture of positive feedback – these are the elements that influence employee engagement and satisfaction.

After the official and substantive part, the next items on the agenda were welcoming 11 new Member Companies that had recently joined the Chamber and business talks in a friendly atmosphere over refreshments.

On June 15, we invite you to another event for entrepreneurs associated with RIG. This time, we will meet in a summer setting for the third edition of the Family Picnic in Zabrze. More details will be available soon.
